My holiday baking list
Once a year, I go a little nuts and bake way too many cookies. The tradition dates back to the early 2000s, when my middle school bff and I would get together and bake a ton of cookies - I think one year we made like 1000 - that’s how intense we would get. I no longer have such large number goals in mind, but my favorite thing to do around this time of year is get some cookies going! I think they make the perfect gift, you can freeze them and bring them out the whole season, and, if you’re me, you can get really ambitious trying to decorate them, and forget that you’re not actually trying to star on an episode of Great British Baking Show.
I have a few staples that I make every year, like the velvety Christmas sugar cookies (best you’ll ever have - the secret ingredient is cream cheese), peanut blossoms, spoon cookies, buckeyes, and these chocolate chip espresso cookies, but then I also like to mix it up and try some new things too. Below, is my list:
I’ve had a hankering for cream puffs lately - maybe I’ll try making a croquembouche.
These cookies are so so good that I have to bring them into the holiday baking fold.
Rugelach is a Jewish staple and for good reason - it’s super tasty. I might try this take on it this year!
These soft sugar cookies are similar to a kind my grandma used to make… so I have to try them!
What’s Christmas without a gingerbread cookie?
My aforementioned middle school bff always made these cookies, and I was always kind of obsessed with them. I haven’t had them for years but might have to give them a try!
Spritz cookies are really good filler cookies. Easy to make, easy to stamp out, kind of impressive to look at!
I’m obsessed with Bon Appetit, and fell down their cookie rabbit hole. I may need to try some/all of these:
Chocolate covered marshmallow cookies
Pretzel linzers with salted caramel
Ombre rainbow cookies (these look soooo pretty!)
I think if I can get through all of those, I’ll be set on cookies probably for the rest of the year, haha! Please leave a comment and tell me what’s on your baking list!
