My goals for the new year

My personal goals for the new year.

Oh man, nothing like a new year for some goals, am I right?! This year, I’ve been easing into the resolution mindset.  I always end up feeling kind of tired and wiped out after a busy holiday season. So my number one resolution this year was to cut myself some slack. Hence, why you are reading this in the very last week of January!

Even though I’m taking it slow, my mind has been absolutely lighting up with all that I want to accomplish for the year, and I’m excited to get a hustle on.

I thought it would be fun to share my professional goals, and give you a peek into what’s going on behind the scenes of One + Only Paper.

1. Automate

This might seem weird for a stationery business, but I’m growing obsessed with automation. Designing wedding stationery takes a lot of time and a lot of heart. I’ve often felt that my job is not really painting and designing but based in customer service. People might not remember all that you’ve done for them, but they will definitely remember how you’ve made them feel. I strive to leave my clients feeling like I’ve gone above and beyond to make their paper dreams come true. Unfortunately, I am just one person, and sometimes it’s hard to hit that goal. Especially when I feel like I’m scrambling to keep my head above water, much less get ahead and think of ways to surprise and delight my clients. SO, this year I would like to take a cold hard look at every part of my process. I want to not only evaluate it to make sure I’m doing the very best that I can, but also find ways to automate or outsource so I don’t have to touch every single piece of the puzzle. I expect this to be an ongoing process, but I’m excited to elevate my experience and save some time.

2. Expand

Lately, I’ve found myself dreaming up ways to create products beyond wedding stationery. I think it’s good for my creativity to jump out of my comfort zone and try my hand at other products, and some of those I think could be incorporated into my business. Right now I’m actively working on creating a permanent print shop, and expanding my Spoonflower shop to have more than just Christmas patterns (definitely click that link, because I’ve already gotten started on that goal!) Beyond that, I have a million ideas, and I’m excited to spend the year working making some of them a reality… you might say this is my new side hustle. Can you have a side hustle if it’s part of your main hustle?

3. Relax

I’ll be honest with you, last year was a hard one for me, professionally. Like I said before, I felt like I was often struggling just to keep up, and that’s not how I want to run my business or live my life. I’ve done a lot of thinking and working to ensure that doesn’t happen again this year, and while I’m so excited to see how high I can fly, I’m also excited to have a year that doesn’t involve me waking up in the middle of the night, heart pounding, head racing through my endless to-do list. I want to be sure I’m prioritizing the things and people who are important to me, and that when I am at work, I’m focused, efficient, and taking action on what will propel my business forward, and not what I feel like I ‘should’ be doing.
