Melissa & Kyle’s playful, Old South inspired wedding stationery

I’ll be honest, I feel like I have known Melissa forever! She came to me in 2015, because stationery was a priority for her, and she wanted to make sure she got the right person for the job. Can I say dream client?! Melissa and Kyle live in the Bahamas, but were married in Charleston. They wanted a playful invitation that married Old South charm with the Old Bahamian style. Melissa’s only initial request was that we incorporate antlers into their wedding seal, because Kyle loves to hunt. So the first order of business was creating a wedding seal that incorporated all the symbolism that would set the tone for the rest of their suite.

We used the seal on their save the dates, which were both letterpressed and flat printed. This allowed us to incorporate the abstract watercolor illustration.

For the invitation suite itself, we included a lot of watercolor illustrations in rich colors but overall kept a light tone, carrying their blues throughout. I kept the invitation piece simple, so it would be the standout in the suite. The warm tone on tone look is always best achieved with letterpress, which gives such a beautiful dimension.

Since they had a few pieces in the suite, we felt that it would be best to use something really special to keep it all together. We created a custom tissue paper wrap, that was bound with a dip-dyed silk ribbon, and all held together by an oversized wax seal.

I totally loved this suite, and it’s been so tough to keep it under wraps until the wedding. Melissa was such a joy to work with, and I just loved her style. Wishing you both all the happiness in the world!
