light in the darkness
This month and season has had a lot of ups and downs. For me, things are never as clearcut as 'it's bad', or 'it's good' - I'll be feeling sad and missing my favorite traditions one day, and ready to find the bright side the next, but I definitely have not been as firmly entrenched in the holiday spirit as I usually am around this time.
⠀
Something I love about this time of year is that I think it was originally born out of a human resiliency and a willingness to find the light in the dark. It is literally so dark right now - I swear the sun was setting by quarter to 4 the other day, and so we make our own light, with candles and twinkle lights, and things that smell good, and tokens of our affection for each other. ⠀
⠀
Soon, the days will start getting longer again, and this season will come to an end, as it always does. I hope what stays with me is the joy I found sparking in the dark, little moments of happiness and gratitude eventually kindling into a bigger, brighter flame.
