How to find inspiration!

Finding inspiration in a life that feels like all the spontaneity’s been sucked out of it (aka pandemic life) is a challenge, but it’s nice to know that it’s not a challenge unique to just me - I’m sure a lot of people have been dealing with that over the past year. I’ve been seeking inspiration like crazy over the last couple of weeks, so I have a few ideas:

  1. Change your surroundings. Rearrange your room, hang art, go work in a different area, whatever it takes. I’ve done a ton of little decor projects this year, including adding the cafe table shown above, just to mix it up. Having those little differences can help break up the monotony, which helps put your mind in a more creative place.

  2. Look at old photos. I love scrolling through old pictures when I’m working on a new project. It helps me access memories that might not otherwise come to mind, and there’s just something about it that never fails to help me feel more inspired.
  3. Stay off your phone. This is something I’m still working on, but I think being bored can really help you be more creative. It’s hard because I love my phone, but it eats up so much time that could be spent doing literally anything else. Sometimes just giving myself that space to think leads to new and exciting ideas.

  4. Go outside. I guess this could be filed under ‘change your surroundings’, but going outside and just taking in the world around you, and looking at the sky instead of a computer monitor is such a refreshing, and inspiring thing to do.
  5. Don’t be hard on yourself. I struggle a lot with self doubt, which is so counter productive when it comes to finding inspiration. I’m like the opposite of a tortured artist - I need to be happy and confident to create my best work, and sometimes that means I need to give myself a break and cut myself some slack.
